Boston College Scores 78-69 Victory in NIT

Dana Barros scored 24 points and Boston College hit 10 free throws down the stretch Saturday night to beat Middle Tennessee State, 78-69, and advance to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

Boston College (18-13) will play Big East rival Connecticut Tuesday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The other semifinal matches Ohio State against Colorado State.

Boston College led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but Middle Tennessee pulled within 44-43 with 17:50 left in the game.

The Eagles then went to work on the inside, getting baskets by Tyrone Scott, Steve Benton and Doub Able to move in front, 56-47, with 13:32 remaining. Benton finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

Middle Tennessee (23-11) got 34 points from Randy Henry.
