High School Spring Sports : Righetti Girls Claim Title With Shutout

Righetti’s Andrea Beall hit a three-run home run in the first inning to propel the Warriors to a 5-0 victory over Thousand Oaks in the championship game of the Righetti softball tournament in Santa Maria Tuesday.

Thousand Oaks advanced to the championship with a 1-0 victory over Simi Valley in a semifinal game.

Against Righetti, the Lancers had only one hit and committed two errors. Starter Shireen Campbell gave up all five runs and two hits in four innings before Alicia Zinner relieved her in the fifth.

Campbell threw a one-hitter in the semifinals. Tricia Gregoire hit a run-scoring double in the second inning to score the game’s only run.

Thousand Oaks (9-6) was 3-1 in the tournament.

Simi Valley 3, Newbury Park 0--Simi Valley scored three runs in the ninth to snap a scoreless tie and secure third place in the Righetti tournament.

Denise Swank was 4 for 5 to lead Simi Valley. The Pioneers had six hits and committed four errors.

Chrissy Oliver allowed two singles and pitched a complete-game lead.

Louisville 5, St. Monica 5--Freshman third baseman Marisa Everett had three walks and five stolen bases to lead the Royals to a nonleague victory over St. Monica at Louisville.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Loyola d. Crespi, 15-4, 12-15, 15-1, 15-4--Ken Lynch and Chris McGee both had six kills for Crespi in a Del Rey League loss at Crespi.

Rick Schuberg added five kills for the Celts (9-1, 4-1 in league play), who are a second-year program. Loyola is the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A.

Campbell Hall d. Daniel Murphy, 15-4, 15-5, 15-10--Middle hitter Tim Sutton had 18 kills and three stuff blocks to lead the Vikings to a Camino Real League victory at Daniel Murphy.

Sophomore middle hitter Will Fruehling had 10 kills and served for 18 service points, with two aces, for Campbell Hall (4-3 overall, 2-1 in league play). He also had six blocks.
