Sam Bowie underwent surgery on his broken right leg in what the oft-injured center says is his final attempt to salvage his professional basketball career.

Robert Cook, team physician for the Portland Trail Blazers, inserted a metal plate in the leg and performed a bone graft. He also restored the break to its proper healing position.

“If you are a betting man, bet I won’t be playing next year,” Bowie said. “I’m looking at it as a bonus if I get back for next year.”
