Redondo High pitcher Scott Davison added another footnote to his growing list of accomplishments on Tuesday night in the finals of the Babe Herman Tournament.

The right-handed senior threw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead the Sea Hawks (12-1) over Long Beach Poly, 3-1, at Stengel Field in Glendale.

Davison, named the tournament’s most valuable player, gave up three singles in the first two innings and then pitched a perfect game in the final five. He had 10 consecutive strikeouts starting in the third inning. He walked none.

“He was awesome, to say the least,” said Redondo Coach Harry Jenkins. “It was his best outing this year. Those middle innings were probably as impressive as I’ve ever seen him.

“Poly has a fairly good club. They have some good athletes. But it was no contest. One of their players commented in the middle of the game, ‘This isn’t any fun.’ ”

Davison, who had 31 strikeouts and a walk in his two tournament wins, has 74 strikeouts and only 7 walks in 42 innings this season. He improved his record to 6-0 with his sixth complete game, although his exceptional ERA went up a notch to 0.50.

The victory also moved him into a tie for seventh on the Southern Section career win list. Davison’s four-year record of 36-5 ties him with Dan Tippett of Antelope Valley (1970-71) and Mike Pill of Edgewood (1974-77). He needs four more wins to move into second place behind career leader Scott McGregor of El Segundo, who won 51 games from 1969 to 1972.
