The Major Indoor Soccer League, which has threatened to cease operations at the conclusion of this season if its players refuse to take salary cuts, responded Thursday to four concerns raised by the MISL Players Assn.

The league is calling for a reduction in its total compensation cap from $1.275 million to $898,000 per team annually. It said all 11 MISL teams will terminate at the end of the regular season if the MISLPA does not agree to the reduction.

The players association raised four concerns, which were addressed by the teams in a telephone conference call Thursday.

Bill Kentling, the MISL commissioner, said the league will pay medical bills owed by players from defunct teams, a total of about $15,500.

The league also will split equally with the players the money it receives from the sale of MISL player trading cards; will make two payments, $30,000 and $44,000 , to cover costs of the players’ severance plan ; and will make one payment of $198,000 to the MISLPA to pay injury claims.

The league, which disputes many of the claims, proposes that the $198,000, or $18,000 per team, be subtracted from the proposed compensation cap reduction, putting the proposed compensation cap at $880,000 per team.

Kentling said the proposals will be implemented when the MISLPA accepts the league’s compensation stabilization proposal.

“I believe this type of response to the players association will generate more meaningful discussion between both sides beginning next week,” Kentling said.
