College Softball : Bryant and Okerlund Pitch Titans to Doubleheader Sweep
Cal State Fullerton swept a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. doubleheader from San Jose State, 4-1 and 11-1, Saturday at Fullerton.
Anjie Bryant pitched a seven-hitter for the Titans in the first game. Bryant (18-5) gave up just one unearned run, struck out one batter and walked one. Carey Hess went 2 for 3 with a run scored to lead Fullerton.
In the second game, the Titans had 17 hits. Hess again led the way, going 4 for 5 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Cathi Hall and Missy Coombes had three hits each.
Janis Okerlund (10-1) picked up the win for Fullerton (37-11 overall, 11-5 in conference and seventh-ranked nationally). San Jose State is 15-16 and 4-8.
In nonconference play:
Southern California College 5-7, La Verne 4-6--Laura Lund had a two-run single to highlight a three-run fourth inning in the first game to lead Southern California College (11-17) over La Verne (13-11). In the second game, SCC scored two runs on an RBI triple by Gherri Mort, who also scored when a La Verne fielder threw past the catcher. Mort was 3 for 3 and Lisa Napier was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs in the second game.
