A Rancho Santa Margarita man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving early Wednesday morning after the van he was driving sideswiped a parked California Highway Patrol car on Interstate 5 here, authorities said.

Two CHP officers and a passenger in the patrol car suffered moderate injuries in the accident, which took place on the rain-slick freeway just north of the Alicia Parkway exit, CHP spokeswoman Elizabeth West said.

The driver of the van, identified as Nelson Columbus Dillard, 27, was arrested just after midnight and taken to County Jail in Santa Ana. Dillard suffered only minor injuries, West said.

The CHP officers were at the scene of a previous non-injury accident when Dillard’s van swerved into the patrol car. Seated inside were Officers Alvin Yamaguchi, 30, and Steve Beeuwsaert, as well as David Jadaken, 18, of Santa Monica, who had been involved in the first accident, West said.
