The Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley will hold a junior invitational tournament Aug. 29-30 with a field of as many as 250 golfers, according to the club’s director of golf.
The tournament will be divided into boys’ and girls’ categories, with divisions for those 11 and under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17. The 11-and-under group will compete in an 18-hole tournament, with nine holes played each day.
The other divisions will play a 36-hole event.
Bobby Heath, Wood Ranch’s director of golf, said the club hopes to build the event into a nationally known tournament, such as the Future Masters in Alabama and the Junior World Championships in San Diego.
“This first year we would expect kids from Southern California only,” Heath said. “But as word spreads of the tournament and the facilities here, we expect kids from all over the country to show up.”
The tournament entry fee is $15.
