Jeanne Jones, ridden by Bill Shoemaker, shook off a challenge by Lost Kitty and then Fara’s Team to win the $250,000 Fantasy Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths at Oaklawn Park in Hot Spring, Ark.
It was the third Fantasy win for trainer Charlie Whittingham, who also scored with Miss Musket in 1974 and Flying Partner in 1982. “We go when we think we can win,” Whittingham said. “If you’ve got some coyotes, you just stay at home and howl.”
Jeanne Jones, owned by the Golden Eagle Farm of Mr. and Mrs. John Mabee, ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 1/5 and paid $2.80 to win.
