Lanny Wadkins shot a seven-under-par 65 Friday, and his 132 total gave him a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the $750,000 USF&G; golf tournament at New Orleans.

Wadkins putted for attempted birdies on 17 holes, did not have a bogey and missed eight birdie putts from 15 feet or less.

Chip Beck was Wadkins’ closest pursuer. Beck, who scored the first victory of a 10-year career in Los Angeles two months ago, birdied four holes in a row and had 11 one-putt greens during a round of 64 that lifted him to 133.

The United States won five of eight matches to take a commanding 26-6 lead on the second day of the $600,000 Chrysler Cup seniors tournament at Sarasota, Fla.

Orville Moody, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Gene Littler, Miller Barber and Al Geiberger each won as the Americans totaled 10 points to 6 for the internationals.

The international victories were by Bruce Crampton, who beat U.S. captain Arnold Palmer; Peter Thomson, who beat Billy Casper, and Gary Player, who defeated Dale Douglass.

Donna White shot her second straight four-under-par 68 Friday and moved into a tie for the lead with Rosie Jones at 136 in the second round of the $225,000 USX golf tournament at the Pasadena Yacht and Country Club in the St. Petersburg, Fla., suburb of Gulfport.

Jones shot a 69.
