1988 Prep Best Set as Rain Makes Mark at Mt. SAC Relays

Share

Rain dominated the high school portion of the Mt. San Antonio College Relays Saturday in Walnut, although Kristi Bache of University High in San Diego set a national best for 1988 in the girls’ 1,500 meters.

On an otherwise dry day for achievements, the UCLA-bound Bache supplied the high-water mark on the all-weather track. She clocked a 4:31.01 in the 1,500 to beat Lisa Harvey of Calgary, Canada (4:31.42), and Kira Jorgensen of Rancho Buena Vista from the San Diego Section (4:32.91).

Several events--mostly the field competitions--were either canceled or hindered because of the weather.

There was only one double individual winner: Brad McQuaid, a member of the Canadian contingent. He won the invitational 100-meter dash in 11.0 and the open 200 in 21.86.

Quincy Watts of Woodland Hills Taft, who signed with USC Thursday, missed the meet with a hamstring injury, the same one that kept him out of the Arcadia Invitationals two weeks ago. He was the California champion in the 100 and 200 last year, and was named the No. 1 sprinter in the country in 1987 by Track & Field News.
