Ass’ad’s Enthusiasm Delivered Davila to CSUN Soccer Team

Terry Davila said that there really was never any doubt.

Davila, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 145-pound senior at Reseda High, declined offers from three other universities and signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Cal State Northridge.

Davila, whose father Tony is the Northridge tennis coach, was the defensive player of the year in the 4-A Division and helped lead the Regents to the City Section title.

Proximity to home and family and a liking for Northridge soccer Coach Marwan Ass’ad were the main reasons Davila chose the Matadors over San Diego State, Nevada Las Vegas and Cal State Los Angeles.

“I’ve wanted to go there since I was a kid,” said Davila, a two-time All-City player. “In eighth and ninth grade I was a ball boy for the team.

“I’ve liked Marwan since I met him. He’s a real excitable guy and he gets me pumped up for soccer.”

Said Ass’ad, whose team finished second in Division II last season, of Davila: “He’s the kind of player who wants to become great.”

Davila said he hopes his brother Teddy will follow him to CSUN after graduating from Reseda next year. Teddy Davila recently was selected to participate on a Southern California all-star team that will compete May 7-8 against a team from Northern California in the Milk Cup in Sacramento.
