David Rottman had 25 kills in 51 attempts Saturday night to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 15-12, 15-11, 13-15, 15-10 victory over Hawaii in the championship game of the NCAA West Regional volleyball tournament at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

UCSB, the second-seeded team in the tournament, also had 17 kills from Jose Gandara and 13 kills from Lee Nelson as it beat the top-seeded Rainbows.

Jon Wallace chipped in with 80 assists for the Gauchos (27-10).

Carlos Briceno led Hawaii (24-6) with 17 kills in the 2-hour 20-minute match.

UCSB’s victory means the Gauchos will be considered for--but not guaranteed--a spot in the NCAA tournament at Fort Wayne, Ind., May 6-7.
