A fire that started spontaneously in oily rags caused $21,000 in damage to a woodworking business early Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

The fire, which was reported at 5:40 a.m. at R & G Wood Working, started at the northwest corner of the business and quickly spread to stacks of wood before it was extinguished by firefighters from the La Habra and Brea fire departments, officials said.

It took 12 firefighters from the two departments about 10 minutes to put out the flames in the one-story commercial building, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

The building was unoccupied at the time. Fire investigators determined that the blaze started in improperly stored oily rags, authorities said.
