Three Jockeys Injured in Belmont Spill

Three jockeys were injured Monday in a spectacular three-horse spill in the first race at Belmont Park in New York.

The accident occurred when Imanair, with Chris Antley aboard, fell shortly after entering the stretch in the 1-1/16 mile race for maiden fillies on the outer turf course. Madame Alydar and Pot O’Jam then collided with the fallen filly, throwing riders Richard Migliore and Julie Krone.

Migliore suffered a dislocation of the cervical spine and is expected to be out 5 to 6 weeks. Antley sustained a concussion and was hospitalized overnight for observation. Krone, who recently resumed riding after suffering injuries to her left hand, left leg and chin in a fall April 24, walked off the course despite suffering a slight concussion.

The horses had minor injuries.
