A mild earthquake rattled parts of Southern California’s Riverside and San Bernardino counties on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, authorities said.

The quake at 5:32 p.m. measured 3.8 on the Richter scale and was centered six miles southeast of Redlands, near the boundary of the two counties and about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, said Hall Daily, spokesman for the Caltech seismology laboratory in Pasadena.

“It was strongly felt in Riverside,” said Kathy Watts, a scientist at the lab.

But Riverside police received no reports of injuries or damage, Sgt. Joanne Flores said.

Callers from San Bernardino and from Idyllwild, in the San Jacinto Mountains, also reported feeling the jolt.
