Officials of UC San Francisco and Mt. Zion Hospital have reached a tentative agreement under which the century-old hospital will become part of the UC system. The hospital will retain a separate board with some control over programs, according to Mt. Zion officials, but needs to join forces with the university to keep afloat financially. In recent years, the historic hospital has placed more emphasis on providing health care for the poor and needy and has been hard hit by federal and state cost freezes.
