A 50-foot power boat sank Sunday about 14 miles off San Clemente Island and all eight people aboard were rescued by the Coast Guard and Navy.
The Real Deal, a chartered scuba-diving boat out of San Diego, began taking water and sank at about 5:40 a.m., apparently after hitting a submerged object, Coast Guard Chief Dennis Lawson said.
A helicopter dispatched by the Coast Guard picked up four of the survivors, and a Navy helicopter plucked the other four from the sea, Lawson said. There were no injuries.
Lawson said the boat had left San Diego late Saturday night and was on its way out for a scuba-diving expedition when the accident occured.
