Peter Ueberroth, who has said he would be a one-term baseball commissioner, has agreed to extend his contract, according to one report, but Rich Levin, a spokesman for Ueberroth, said that the commissioner has not agreed to an extension.
At a meeting of major league owners last week in San Francisco, the clubs indicated that they wanted Ueberroth to stay in office at least through the 1990 labor negotiations, according to a source.
Ueberroth reportedly said at the meeting he would agree to an extension that would carry his term through a new collective bargaining agreement.
Ueberroth’s contract is due to expire Dec. 31, 1989.
