A Few Aging Stars Are Reportedly on NBA’s Expansion List
Veterans Norm Nixon of the Clippers, Otis Birdsong of the New Jersey Nets and Walter Davis of the Phoenix Suns are among the players on a list from which the National Basketball Assn.’s two expansion teams will choose their players, the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Thursday.
The NBA has declined to release the names of the players who will be unprotected in the expansion draft next Thursday for the Charlotte Hornets and the Miami Heat. However, the newspaper said it had confirmed the names through league sources.
Twenty-one of the league’s 23 teams have submitted their lists. Because they are playing in the NBA Finals, the Lakers and the Detroit Pistons have until the day after the championship series ends to report their unprotected players.
Other names on the list included New Jersey point guard Dwayne (Pearl) Washington, Washington Bullets point guard Tyrone Bogues, Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Dell Curry and Dallas Mavericks center-forward Bill Wennington.
