Top Two Surfers Eliminated at Salt Creek Beach
The two top-seeded surfers--Mike Lambresi of Carlsbad and Jim Hogan of San Clemente--were eliminated Saturday in the $55,000 Body Glove Surf Bout being held in 2- to 3-foot waves at Salt Creek Beach Park in Laguna Niguel.
Lambresi, the defending champion, finished fourth in his heat, from which Trevor Christ of Encintas and Brian McNulty of Capistrano Beach advanced. The pair will join Frank Medrid of Carlsbad and Ted Robinson of Manhattan Beach in the first heat of the quarterfinals, which begin at 8:30 a.m. today.
The finals are scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Hogan was upset in the heat from which Matt Archbold of San Clemente and Randy Wright of Venice advanced. Archbold and Wright join Dan Yarbrough of Encinitas and Ricky Schaffer of Canoga Park in the second quarterfinal heat.
John Parmenter of Huntington Beach, Chris Billy of San Juan Capistrano, Dino Andino of San Clemente and Todd Miller of Newport Beach will make up the third quarterfinal heat.
The fourth heat will comprise Jeff Booth of Laguna Beach, Andy Fomenko of San Clemente, Richie Rudolph of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Mike Cruickshank of Dana Point.
