Shirley Furlong defeated Sherri Turner on the first sudden-death playoff hole Sunday to win $45,000 in the LPGA’s $300,000 Lady Keystone Open at Hershey, Pa.

Furlong’s bunker shot on the 401-yard first playoff hole left her with only a tap-in for par and the victory.

Turner ended the hole with a bogey 5. She took a drop when her second shot landed in ground under repair just off the green, her chip stopped short and her 9-foot par putt slid past the hole.

Furlong and Turner finished regulation play tied at 205, 11 strokes under par in the 54-hole event at the 6,348-yard, par-72 West Course of the Hershey Country Club.

Val Skinner took third place with a 67--207.

Furlong had the day’s lowest round, a 65 and almost won outright when her birdie attempt on 18 circled the cup lip but failed to fall.

Turner needed a par-saving putt at 18 to force the playoff after she left her first putt 8 feet short.

Defending champion Ayako Okamoto finished at even par for the day and seven under for the tournament.

Don Bies ran away from the field with an eagle and three birdies in the first five holes and went on to a two-stroke victory over Bob Charles in the $350,000 Northville Invitational seniors tournament at Jericho, N.Y.

Bies and Charles each shot a six-under-par 66, with Bies completing 54 holes at 202 to collect $52,000.

Bies, 50, completed the front nine of the par-72, 7,100-yard Meadow Brook course in 30, then played par golf over the back nine. His only bogey of the day came on No. 17, but that served only to reduce a three-shot lead to the final margin.

Lou Graham, with a 66, and Dave Hill, with a 69, finished at 206.
