Bus Passes to Stay at $4 for Elderly

Share

Elderly and disabled Glendale residents will continue paying $4 a month for city-subsidized RTD bus passes, despite a $3-a-ticket increase imposed by the Southern California Rapid Transit District.

At the urging of Councilman John F. Day, council members voted 5 to 0 Tuesday to fully subsidize the increase that will take effect July 1. The city public works department had recommended that Glendale split the increase with elderly and disabled residents who buy the passes.

With state-allocated transportation funds, Glendale now buys the bus passes for $7 and sells them to elderly and disabled residents for $4, at a cost of $61,000 a year. Beginning next month, the city will pay $10 for the passes and continue to sell them for $4 at a cost of $123,000 a year.
