Hector Camacho, fighting for the first time since May 2, 1987, got up from the first knockdown of his career, for a five-count at 2:30 of the first round, to win a unanimous 10-round decision over Reyes Cruz at Atlantic City, N.J.
Camacho’s 32nd victory was his first step toward becoming a triple champion by winning the junior-welterweight title.
Judge Lynn Carter scored it 97-95, Gene Grant 96-94 and Al DeVito 96-95, all for Camacho, 26, who weighed 142, as did Cruz. The Associated Press scored it 95-95, a draw.
