Fire raced through an apartment garage and forced about 70 residents from their apartments after water and power were cut off, Fullerton fire officials said Sunday.

Battalion Chief Van Goyne said the fire, which started about 5 a.m., destroyed half of a detached car port at an apartment complex at 331 W. Valencia Drive.

No injuries were reported.

Power lines to the apartment complex were heavily damaged, forcing a Southern California Edison Co. crew to cut off all power, Goyne said. Firefighters left the scene at about 7:20 a.m., but power was not restored until 4:30 p.m.

Damage to the garage was estimated at $18,000, plus $7,000 to the contents, Goyne said.
