Mission Viejo Diver Wins Qualifying Meet

Julie Handren of Mission Viejo finished first in a qualifying meet at USC Saturday for the U.S. national outdoor diving championships.

Handren won the 1-meter springboard competition with 358.50 points. Kristen Walls, who won the San Diego Section girls’ championship last season for Monte Vista High School, was second with 344.95.

The national championship meet will be held July 21-24 at Irvine.
