Seahawks Reportedly Sold for $80 Million
The Seattle Seahawks have been sold to a Northern California real estate developer for about $80 million, pending approval by the National Football League and the team’s owners, the Seattle Times reported in Sunday’s editions.
Quoting an unnamed source close to the Nordstrom family--the team’s owners--the newspaper said that Kenneth Behring of Danville, Calif., tendered a second offer for the team on Saturday, which was accepted by John Nordstrom, managing partner.
The first offer, made Friday, for $72 million cash and $8 million deferred, had been rejected, the newspaper said.
Nordstrom, who was in San Francisco Friday, couldn’t be reached for comment. Team President Mike McCormack, reached at home late Saturday, also had no comment.
The franchise must remain in Seattle at least until the year 2005, when the team’s lease with the Kingdome runs out.
Behring, 60, is reportedly worth about $600 million. His specialty was country club developments, which eventually led him to the formation of the 4,800-acre community of Blackhawk, two miles east of Danville in the East Bay.
