College Roundup : Titans Finish Tied for Second in Volleyball Event
Cal State Fullerton lost twice in the final day of the Georgetown-Early Bird women’s volleyball tournament Saturday in Washington, D.C, to finish in a tie for second in the eight-team event.
Fullerton’s Susan Herman had 29 kills, but West Virginia defeated the Titans, 15-7, 8-15, 15-8, 15-10. Rhode Island later defeated Fullerton, 15-7, 8-15, 15-8, 15-10, despite Herman’s 11 kills. Rhode Island won the round-robin tournament with a 6-0 record. Fullerton and West Virginia finished with 4-2 records.
In the Far West Soccer Tournament:
Chapman 1, Pacific Lutheran 0--Brian Lou, a freshman from Canyon High School, scored at the 37-minute mark of the first half for Chapman at Chico State in the consolation championship. Keri Bello had six saves for Chapman (2-1).
In the Fresno Pacific Volleyball Tournament:
UC San Diego 2, Chapman 0--UC San Diego won the tournament by beating Chapman, 15-12, 7-15, 15-4, in the final. Chapman (6-2) defeated Western Washington, 15-9, 15-10, in the quarterfinals and Fresno Pacific, 15-8, 15-4, in the semifinals. Dana Beardsley and Karen Burley of Chapman were voted on the all-tournament team.
