Californian Falls to Lendl in Open

NEW YORK —
Defending champion Ivan Lendl easily advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open today, dispatching unseeded Derrick Rostagno of Brentwood, Calif., 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 in 99 minutes. Lendl, who has yet to meet a seeded player, will play the winner of tonight’s quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Andre Agassi and No. 6 Jimmy Connors.
