Prep Football : El Toro Gets Off to Quick Start in Win
Scott Toppo returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to lead El Toro High School to a 21-8 victory over host Long Beach Jordan Friday night.
El Toro, which has nine consecutive victories over the past two seasons, managed only 107 yards in total offense. Quarterback Steve Stenstrom completed 5 of 16 passes for 51 yards and was sacked four times for minus 39 yards.
Stenstrom threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Bo Haley in the second quarter and then connected with wide receiver Sean Drinkwater on a two-point conversion play for a 15-0 lead.
Tailback David Nemeth ended the scoring for El Toro with a two-yard run in the second quarter. Nemeth had 75 yards in 14 carries but was overshadowed by Jordan running back Johnny Robinson, who gained 199 yards in 26 carries.
