Chuck Knox likes the way things are going, but he’s not ready to go overboard about his Seattle Seahawks.

Curt Warner ran for two touchdowns and defensive end Jacob Green recovered a fumble in the end zone Sunday as the Seahawks scored all their points in the first half and trounced the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-10.

“Two games is not a season,” Knox said. “We have a great attitude and we’re playing well, but we have a long way to go.”

Warner’s touchdowns and Green’s recovery came during a 28-point second quarter that wiped out the Chiefs (0-2).

Kansas City Coach Frank Gansz saw enough of the Seahawks (2-0) to convince him.

“Seattle played very well,” Gansz said. “I think they are a genuine contender for the Super Bowl. Jacob Green is one of the best pass rushers in the league. He did some great things out there.

“I’m not embarrassed. There are some tough days in this league.”

The Chiefs managed their first touchdown of the season on a 15-yard pass from backup quarterback Steve DeBerg to Stephone Paige in the fourth quarter. DeBerg replaced Bill Kenney at halftime.

“I felt it was the best thing we could do,” Gansz said of the quarterback change. “We only had five first downs at halftime. We had to do something.”

The Seahawks defense forced 6 Kansas City turnovers, including 3 by DeBerg and 2 by Kenney, who were sacked a combined 6 times for 57 yards. Green, Seattle’s Pro Bowl defensive end, had 3 for 28 yards.

Seattle broke a 3-3 tie on Warner’s 1-yard touchdown run at 5:23 of the second quarter to cap a 12-play, 59-yard drive.

The Seahawks made it 17-3 at 12:34 of the second quarter on Warner’s 3-yard touchdown run to climax a 10-play, 53-yard march.

The Seahawks scored the third and fourth touchdowns of the second quarter in a 14-second span in the final minute of the half.

After Paul Moyer intercepted Kenney’s pass and returned it to the Kansas City 18, Dave Krieg passed 17 yards to rookie Brian Blades for a touchdown with 51 seconds left. Krieg completed 14 of 22 passes for 114 yards.

On Kansas City’s next offensive play, Kenney was sacked by Green and fumbled. Green recovered in the Kansas City end zone with 37 seconds left in the half.

In the first quarter, Norm Johnson kicked an 18-yard field goal after the officials disallowed John L. Williams’ 23-yard touchdown run when a television replay showed his knee touched down at the 1. The Seahawks failed to score in three shots at the goal line before settling for three points.

Nick Lowery kicked a 27-yard field goal for Kansas City in the first quarter.

DeBerg completed 22 of 38 passes for 244 yards, but threw 3 interceptions. Kenney hit 7 of 15 for 49 yards with 1 interception in the first half.
