Tustin : Apartment, Home Fires Blamed on Electricity
Two separate electrical fires gutted an apartment and a home in Tustin early Wednesday, fire officials said.
The first fire occurred about 1:20 a.m. when a television set short-circuited and ignited a blaze in an unoccupied unit of the Briarwood Apartments at 1352 Walnut Ave.
Orange County paramedics, who had been treating a heart-attack victim at the complex, were able to respond immediately to the fire, Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Patti Range said.
Thirty firefighters were needed to contain the blaze to the second-floor apartment, Range said. The fire caused an estimated $40,000 damage.
The other fire began about 4:48 a.m. at a home being refurbished in the 1600 block of Foothill Lane.
The alarm was called in by an individual who was watching the home for the owner and was sleeping inside when the fire broke out, Range said.
The fire, blamed on an electrical short circuit in the attic, caused $200,000 damage to the 4,000-square-foot home, Range said.
