Hawaii Rallies to Overcome San Jose State

Warren Jones passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to key a 27-point third quarter that carried Hawaii to a 36-27 nonconference victory over San Jose State Saturday night .

The spree helped the Rainbows (3-0) turn a 13-3 deficit into a 30-13 lead.

Jones, who finished with 77 yards rushing and 117 yards passing, romped 46 yards for a touchdown to cap Hawaii’s first possession of the second half.

On the next possession, David Stant intercepted Ken Lutz at San Jose State’s 22-yard line. A one-yard touchdown run by Hekoti Fakava gave Hawaii a 17-13 edge.

After stopping the Spartans (1-2), Hawaii got the ball on its 25. It took the Rainbows just 2:05 to score with Jones hitting Chris Roscoe for 35 yards.

Hawaii scored again on its final third-quarter possession on a touchdown pass from Jones to Fakava. The extra point failed and Hawaii led, 30-13.
