Gun Charge Against 76ers’ Barkley Dropped Because of Illegal Search
A gun charge against Philadelphia 76ers forward Charles Barkley was dropped after a judge ruled that a search of Barkley’s car by New Jersey state police was illegal.
State police found a fully loaded handgun on the floor in the rear of Barkley’s 1988 Porsche after he was stopped for speeding last month on the Atlantic City Expressway.
However, Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Manuel Greenberg ruled that the trooper did not have probable cause to conduct the search because the gun was not in plain sight.
