Heavyweight champion Mike Tyson returned from his trip to the Soviet Union and stepped right back into controversy when he scuffled with a television news crew.

Tyson, who arrived in New York Tuesday night, returned immediately to his mansion in New Jersey.

Wednesday, a news crew from New York television station WNBC was waiting for Tyson when he went out to do roadwork near his home. When Tyson saw the crew he charged them and hurled his portable radio at the crew.

“We had a field producer there and a field crew, and he threw his Walkman at them,” said an NBC spokesman, who spoke on the condition that he not not be identified by name.

“He pulled the camera down, but the cameraman wasn’t hurt. I do not know what the extent of the damage was.”
