Just before the opening of its third season, Friday with Placido Domingo and Julia Migenes in “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” Los Angeles Music Center Opera has named Patricia Mitchell to the newly created post of deputy general director. A management consultant, Mitchell has been executive director of the San Francisco Opera and director of community services for the Guthrie Theater. The MCO board of directors also has elected a new slate of officers, headed by Roy Ash, chairman, and Bernard Greenberg, president. Ash was formerly president of the board, and Greenberg--a member of the Music Center Opera Assn. board since the Music Center opened--moved up from executive vice president. “As (general director) Peter Hemmings continues the work he has begun, we are delighted that he will be aided in his task by someone as highly regarded as Pat Mitchell,” Greenberg commented. “The rise of the Los Angeles Music Center Opera has been one of the great success stories in the arts in Los Angeles.”
