Two SDSU Linebackers Are Nursing Injuries

Share

Lee Brannon and Tracey Mao, San Diego State starting inside linebackers, are listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against Wyoming.

Brannon has tendinitis in his right shoulder and a left knee sprain. Mao has a sprained right ankle.

Don Kaverman, in his third year as SDSU trainer, said the Aztecs’ ankle injuries are the worst he has ever seen. Kaverman said there have been no changes in taping procedures this season, but he will check cleats this week to see if that’s the source of the problem.

Starting defensive end Todd Coomes, who broke his ankle in the Oregon game, will undergo surgery Wednesday and is out for the season. His replacement will be Mitch Burton, a junior from El Capitan High School.

Other injured Aztecs include tailback Paul Hewitt (bruised left hip), linebacker Milt Maples (sprained right ankle), outside linebacker Kevin Maultsby (aggravated nerve in the neck), and cornerback Clark Moses (right shoulder bruise and left wrist sprain). All are probable for Saturday.
