Verdugo Hills 30, Hollywood 6--Verdugo Hills’ special teams and defense set up 3 touchdowns in the first half as the Dons beat Hollywood at home for their second consecutive win.

Verdugo Hills scored its first points without touching the ball as Hollywood hiked the ball into its end zone on an attempted punt for a safety. On the ensuing possession, fullback Paul Koons gave Verdugo Hills a 9-0 lead with a 21-yard touchdown sweep.

Koons scored on a 6-yard run 4 plays after Ryan Paskwietz intercepted a Hollywood pass. Koons rushed for 57 yards in 7 carries and scored twice.

Lineman Kevin Shaffer’s blocked punt led to Kevin Golding’s second-period touchdown, a 15-yard pass reception from quarterback Luis Rodriguez, to give the Dons a 23-0 halftime lead.

Bob Yerby’s 4-yard run in the third quarter completed the Dons’ scoring.

Hollywood’s only completion came on the game’s final play, a 25-yard scoring strike from Ed Jones to Michael Justin.
