14-Month-Old Vista Girl Killed in Crash
A 14-month-old Vista girl died in a traffic accident on Gopher Canyon Road west of Interstate 15 in an unincorporated area of North County, the California Highway Patrol reported Saturday.
The victim, identified as Berkli Jean Dixon, was a passenger in a car driven by her mother when it was struck broadside while turning onto Disney Lane, the CHP said.
The baby’s mother, Patti Dixon, was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with minor injuries. A second child, Chad, 4, was taken to Children’s Hospital in San Diego for treatment of minor injuries.
Craig Cavins, 22, driver of the other car, and his wife, Jennifer, 21, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Palomar for treatment.
The CHP spokeswoman said that the impact of the collision caused the car in which the baby was riding to split in half.
