Big West Roundup : Long Beach Loses 5th in Row as Utah State Wins, 31-24

Utah State quarterback Brent Snyder threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another as the Aggies defeated Cal State Long Beach, 31-24, in a Big West Conference game Saturday at Logan, Utah.

After a scoreless first period, Long Beach quarterback Jeff Graham threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kelly Ryan to give the 49ers a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

Utah State came back 2 minutes later with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Snyder to wide receiver Kendal Smith to tie the score, 7-7.

A 42-yard field goal by Long Beach kicker David VanSteenkiste put the 49ers ahead, 10-7, at halftime. Aggie kicker Russ Moody tied the score, 10-10, with 7:41 left in the third quarter on a 33-yard field goal.

Snyder started the fourth-quarter scoring with a 3-yard run to give Utah State a 17-10 lead. Long Beach answered with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Graham to Derek Washington to tie the score.

Snyder then hit Patrick Newman on an 18-yard pass with 6:30 remaining as Utah State regained the lead, 24-17. Long Beach came back 11 seconds later on an 80-yard pass from Graham to Mark Seay to once again tie the score.

The Aggies are 2-4 and 2-0. Long Beach fell to 0-5 and 0-2.

Nevada Las Vegas 30, Pacific 16--Tommy Jackson ran for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Rebels (2-3 and 1-1) to the win at Stockton.

Pacific is 1-5 and 1-2.
