A county prisoner remained at large Sunday after escaping from a patrol car, authorities said.

The prisoner, Gregory A. Fivecoats, 28, escaped from the back seat of a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department patrol car Friday night when the deputy who was driving the car stopped to help with an accident on the southbound Golden State Freeway at Osborne Street, Deputy Dan Cox said.

Fivecoats’ hands were cuffed behind him and he was wearing a seat belt, Cox said. He was being taken from the Pitchess Honor Rancho in Saugus to the downtown Men’s Central Jail, Cox said.
