Orange Lutheran Comes Up Short, in 21-16 Defeat
Orange Lutheran High School wasted several scoring opportunities and Valley Christian defeated the Lancers, 21-16, Saturday night in an Olympic League game in front of 600 at Valley Christian.
The Crusaders (6-1 overall, 2-0 in league play) took a 21-14 lead with 6 minutes 25 seconds left in the game on a 2-yard run by Mark Kortenhoeven.
Orange Lutheran came back and drove to the Valley Christian 35, but quarterback Jason Neben’s pass was intercepted on the 9 with 2:17 left. The Crusaders gave the Lancers a safety on a fourth-down to avoid a possible blocked punt with 1:08 left.
Gil Greene scored on a 13-yard run midway through the first quarter to give Orange Lutheran the lead.
The Lancers (4-3, 0-2) got inside the Valley Christian 25 twice in the first half, but came away with no points. The Crusaders proceeded to drive 85 yards in 14 plays with Tyler Doktor scoring on a 6-yard run.
