A 22-year-old San Diego man was shot in the temple with a .25-caliber handgun and was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday evening, police said.

Dominic Kinder, 22, was walking near 32nd and Market streets when three men walked up behind him and said, “There he is,” police reported. A shot was then fired.

The assailants fled, and the victim was taken first to Physicians & Surgeons Hospital, then to UC San Diego Medical Center. Police said the victim was “lucid and able to communicate,” despite his condition.
