A man was found stabbed to death in front of an East San Diego apartment complex early Thursday, police said.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Madison Avenue at 2:20 a.m. to investigate reports of an assault, said police spokesman Dave Cohen. They found Joseph O. Nelson, 31, wearing only undershorts, collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the manager’s office, Cohen said. Nelson had been stabbed a number of times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police followed a trail of blood back to the victim’s apartment, where he lived alone, Cohen said.
No suspects were arrested and no motive was known for the killing, police said.
