Roundup : Irvine Splits Water Polo Matches

UC Irvine’s water polo team split 2 games in the Cal State Long Beach Invitational Saturday at Belmont Plaza pool in Long Beach.

The Anteaters, ranked sixth in the country, defeated Stanford, 8-7, in the first game then lost to second-ranked Cal, 15-10, in the second game of the round-robin tournament.

In women’s volleyball:

Pacific Christian 3, Maranatha Baptist Bible College 0--Jenny Fish and Kris Dodson combined for 26 kills as Pacific Christian wrapped up the National Christian College Athletic Assn. Division II volleyball championship with a 15-7, 15-12, 15-13 decision over Maranatha Baptist Bible in Clark Summit, Pa.

Christ College Irvine 3, Southern California College 0--Leslie Reinicke had 16 kills to lead Christ College Irvine (11-10 overall, 7-7 in conference play) to a 15-6, 15-7, 15-13 Golden State Athletic Conference victory.

In women’s cross-country:

The Master’s Invitational--Sherri Hall of Southern California College finished second, covering the 2-mile course in 11 minutes 7 seconds. Shannon Sheldrew of SCC was sixth in 12:35. SCC did not have enough runners to field a full team, however.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:

Chapman 2, Cal Poly Pomona 1--Freshman Brian Lou scored twice to help host Chapman (7-12-0, 1-7-0) end a six-game losing streak. C.J. Hester gave the Pomona (5-8-4, 1-4-2) a 1-0 lead when he scored 2 minutes into the game, but Lou tied it 2 minutes before halftime. Lou scored the game-winner with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Cal Poly Pomona 2, Chapman 0--Cheryl Rush scored an unassisted goal 17 minutes into the second half and Michelle Carlton added another goal 2 minutes later to lead the Broncos over the Panthers. Chapman fell to 8-8-3; Pomona improved to 7-6-3.
