Avocado League

Rancho Buena Vista 45, Escondido 14--RBV (9-0, 6-0) clinched the league championship with the win. Scott Garcia, the county’s top rusher, ran for 106 yards in 11 carries in little over a half of play for top-ranked Rancho Buena Vista. Garcia added touchdown runs of 28 and 2 yards to up his county-leading touchdown total to 27. O.J. Hall, the county’s No. 6 rusher, had 88 yards in 9 carries and scored on runs of 14 and 7 yards and sophomore MarKeith Ross had 81 yards in 6 carries and scored on runs of 1 and 48 yards. Escondido is 0-9, 0-6.

El Camino 21, Carlsbad 21--Jason Macedo rushed 20 times for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns to help host Carlsbad erase a 15-point deficit. Carlsbad is 5-3-1, 2-3-1. El Camino is 6-2-1, 3-2-1.

Oceanside 21, San Marcos 3--Sherman Crane ran for 70 yards on 11 carries, including touchdowns run of 8 and 1 yards. Greg Frazier (9 carries, 60 yards) also scored for Oceanside on a 6-yard run. In his second start of the season, Oceanside quarterback Chad Crites completed 4 passes on 6 attempts for 32 yards. Oceanside is 7-2, 4-2 and San Marcos is 2-7, 2-4.

Ramona 21, San Pasqual 13--Chad Waite and Matt Dart hooked up for touchdown passes of 6 and 24 yards and Danny Biondo scored on a 55-yard run with 3:37 left in the fourth quarter to clinch the game for Ramona (5-4, 2-4). Tony Medina scored San Pasqual’s first touchdown on a 2-yard run and Andy Loveland passed 6 yards to Gary Weis with 4:35 to play in the fourth quarter to bring San Pasqual to within 14-13.

City Central League

Lincoln 13, Crawford 9--Lincoln’s Orlanzo Edwards touched the ball twice in the first 6 minutes of the game and scored on runs of 50 and 21 yards to give Lincoln a 13-3 lead. Edwards rushed for 150 yards on 25 carries, but the Hornets were finished scoring. Crawford (6-3, 3-1) scored on its first possession of each half, but failed on a last minute drive after getting to the Lincoln 31. Lincoln (8-1, 4-0) assured itself of at least a tie for City Central championship.

City Eastern League

Morse 45, Madison 28--Jessie Campbell rushed for 142 yards on 14 carries and scored on second half runs of 18 and 8 yards as host Morse clinched the City East championship. Madison (0-9, 0-4) closed to within 24-22 midway through the third quarter on 1 of 4 touchdown passes from Brad Eaddy to James Cole. Madison had a chance to take the lead, but Morse’s Jason Counts intercepted an Eaddy pass and Morse (8-1, 4-0) rolled to 21 straight points. Cole caught all 6 of Eaddy’s completions for 182 yards and touchdowns of 10, 77, 7 and 15 yards. Morse quarterback Mike Liera, who replaced starter Jimmie Rose in the first quarter, completed 9 of 15 pass attempts for 178 yards. Liera threw touchdown passes of 35 yards to Teddy Lawrence and 27 yards to Ty Morrison.

Patrick Henry 27, Mira Mesa 0--Andy Trakas kicked field goals of 20 and 25 yards and Khalil Short scored on touchdown runs of 30 and 2 yards for Patrick Henry (8-2, 3-1). Derrick Deadwiler also scored on a 70-yard touchdown run. Mira Mesa is 8-2 and 2-2.

City Western League

La Jolla 17, Mission Bay 0--Mike Wollaeger returned a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown and intercepted his county-leading seventh pass to lead host La Jolla (7-2, 2-2). Wollaeger also kicked a 26-yard field goal. Lamar Frye scored La Jolla’s final touchdown on a 2-yard run. Robert Grasso intercepted a Mission Bay pass at the goal line to preserve La Jolla’s shutout. Mission Bay is 3-6 and 0-4.

University City 36, Clairemont 14--Anthony Hill completed 7 of 11 passes for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns for University City (6-2, 4-0). Hill passed 12 yards to Steve Calvao and 20 yards to Trey Smith to give University City an early 14-0 lead. Darnes Taylor carried 19 times for 93 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown run, and Jeffrey Jordan rushed 6 times for 90 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run. Garret San scored University City’s final touchdown on a 56-yard run. Ray McDavid and Antoine Henry each had touchdown runs for Clairemont (2-7, 1-3).

Kearny 10, USDHS 6--Receiver Jaime Arreola took a pitch from quarterback Tom Rawlins and threw 45 yards to Mark Hood on Kearny’s first play from scrimmage to set up a 5-yard Rawlins to Danny Johnson touchdown pass. Steve Metz kicked an 18-yard fourth quarter field goal to seal the game for Kearny (3-6, 2-2). Tenth-ranked USDHS is 7-2 and 3-1.

Metro Conference

Chula Vista 14, Montgomery 3--Chula Vista (6-3, 6-0) clinched at least a tie for the Metro League title as John Krupp ran for touchdowns of 3 and 17 yards. Krupp carried 15 times for 102 of Chula Vista’s 163 net yards. Chula Vista held visiting Montgomery (1-8, 1-5) to 60 yards passing and 15 rushing and 5 first downs.

Sweetwater 24, Mar Vista 14--Sweetwater’s Joe Lefore recovered a fumble in the end zone, Rene Chavira kicked a 24-yard field goal and Joe Lepule (13 carries, 83 yards) scored on an 11-yard run, all in the second half, to give Sweetwater (5-4, 5-1) its fourth straight win. Kiko Garcia had 106 yards on 12 carries for Mar Vista (2-7, 1-5).

Southwest 41, Hilltop 7--Hubert Phillips led Southwest (7-2, 5-1) at Montgomery with 16 carries for 121 yards and 1 touchdown and caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Richard Delano for another touchdown. Hector Silva carried 8 times for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns and wide receiver Will Tate caught 3 passes for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hilltop is 2-7, 1-5.

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 17, Vista 14--Sean Pinnell kicked a 27-yard field goal with 1:30 left in the game. Mt. Carmel (4-5, 2-3) held a 14-0 lead at the half, but Joe Marcotte’s touchdown runs of 1 and 8 yards enabled Vista (0-9, 0-6) to come back to tie it with 5 minutes left in the final period. Mt. Carmel fullback Jack Tejcek carried 25 times for 124 yards and 1 touchdown, including 80 yards rushing in the drive that set up the winning field goal. Jeff Hamm scored on a 1-yard run in the first period.

Nonleague

Valhalla 32, Coronado 0--Jason Peltier scored on runs of 6, 5 and 12 yards, Mike Pidgeon recovered a fumbled snap in the end zone and Kevin Duke returned an interception 17 yards another touchdown for visiting Valhalla (5-4). Coronado is 4-4.
