Southern Section Playoffs : Capistrano Valley Wins Opener

Capistrano Valley High School defeated Glendale, 13-8, in the first round of the Southern Section 3-A water polo playoffs Wednesday at Glendale.
Paul Felton scored 4 goals for Capistrano Valley (17-4-1). Glendale ends its season with an 11-13 record.
In other 3-A water polo games:
Marina 12, Palm Springs 6--Host Marina, seeded fourth, was led by Geoff Kagy’s 3 goals and Kevin Dillenbeck’s 11 saves. Bob Haefner and Ken Schwartz had 2 goals apiece for Marina (16-12). Palm Springs finished 15-9.
In 4-A girls’ volleyball:
Marina 3, Torrance 2--In a 2-hour 45-minute match at Torrance, Marina won, 15-13, 9-15, 17-19, 15-13, 15-11. Yrsa Tsuneyoshi had 41 assists and Lisa Orosco had 9 aces and 11 digs for Marina (8-7). Torrance finished at 14-1.
Esperanza 3, Long Beach Poly 0--The Aztecs won, 15-10, 15-5, 15-4, behind Heidi Anderson’s 30 assists and Jenise Webb’s 14 kills.
Fountain Valley 3, Cerritos 0--The Barons defeated Cerritos, 15-2, 15-3, 15-8 at Fountain Valley. Amy Brand had 11 kills for Fountain Valley (13-4).
In 3-A girls’ volleyball:
Fullerton 3, San Marino 1--Fullerton (14-6) won, 15-13, 15-9, 9-15, 15-13, as Janna Nelson had 9 kills and 8 blocks at San Marino.
La Serna 3, La Quinta 0--Nicole Huss had 8 kills for La Quinta, which lost, 15-6, 15-9, 15-3, at La Serna.
Sunny Hills 3, Santa Fe 0--The top-seeded Lancers won, 15-7, 15-7, 15-5. Marissa Hatchett, who had 29 kills, led the Lancers (15-2).
Villa Park 3, Kennedy 1--Dana Armstrong had 43 assists, and Anne Salzman had 21 kills to lead Villa Park, 15-13, 15-9, 15-17, 15-9.
