A laboratory at Cal State Fullerton used for studying the effects of earthquakes on buildings will receive $100,000 in additional equipment, the university announced.

The engineering center’s structural laboratory received $40,000 from lottery funds, $10,544 in a National Science Foundation grant and $50,000 from the university itself.

The new equipment will enable the engineering center to test full-scale components of buildings for the effects of simulated earthquakes, university officials said. “In this laboratory we can duplicate any earthquake or duplicate dynamic loading, such as the movement of traffic on a bridge,” said J. Dario Aristizabal, associate professor of civil engineering.
