El Camino remains undefeated in the Mission Conference northern division with only two regular season football games left.

The Warriors (5-1-1, 6-1-1), have division victories over Pasadena, Mt. San Antonio and Long Beach. Saturday they will play host to San Diego Mesa, the south division’s fourth-place team, at 7 p.m. El Camino’s last division game will be against Cerritos on Nov. 19.

Based on their last four games, the No. 8 ranked Warriors should beat San Diego (2-6), which has victories over Cerritos and Orange Coast.

While El Camino is playing sound all-around football, the Olympians are not. Their biggest problem is on offense since their starting quarterback has been sidelined most of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Freshman quarterback Scott Allen runs the San Diego offense and Coach Len Smorin says the inexperienced youngster is having a difficult time.

“This is definitely one of our poor years,” Smorin said. “We really don’t have a good running back either. We just don’t have a good offense.

El Camino is doing great in that area.

Last week quarterback Scott Yessner, who started for the injured Frank Dolce, completed 17 of 29 passes for 200 yards and 1 touchdown. The Warriors also rushed for 104 yards despite the absence of starting tailback Neil Tuihalamaka, who along with linebacker Edwin Ulufanua was suspended for being involved in an on-campus fight.

Warrior Coach John Featherstone says it’s possible both players won’t be allowed to play Saturday.

“The school is taking the action,” Featherstone said. “Now we’re just waiting until the (campus) police report is completed. That could be Thursday or Friday.”

The players’ absence won’t be as big a problem for El Camino as the quarterback absence at Harbor.

Harbor (1-8, 1-6 Western State Conference) has lost two quarterbacks to injuries this season, which allowed tailback Marvin Person to make a quarterback debut in last week’s 50-15 loss to Ventura.

Person, who tossed three interceptions against Ventura, will start at Southwest in Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. game.
