THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES : Roundup : Golden West Reaches Final in Water Polo
Golden West College defeated San Diego Mesa, 5-2, Friday to advance to the final of the Southern California community college water polo tournament at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
The Rustlers play Long Beach tonight at 7:30 in the final.
Golden West also won a spot in the state tournament next weekend at DeAnza College with a 13-6 victory over Ventura. The top four teams from the north and south reach the state tournament.
Long Beach, Saddleback and Mesa also qualified for the state tournament with victories in the quarterfinals.
In men’s nonconference basketball:
Rancho Santiago 83, College of the Canyons 79--Sophomore guard Chris Martin scored 20 points to lead Rancho Santiago at Canyons in the season opener for both teams.
Orange Coast 63, Southwestern 57--Dareck Johnson scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half for visiting OCC.
